Special Needs / Disabilities

St. Isaac Jogues has several services for those who are disabled or have special needs.  If you have any questions about or suggestions that may help us improve our services, please contact the parish office.  Each ministry listed is part of an initiative from the Diocese of Orlando, Ministry for Social Justice.

Ministry for Persons with Disabilities

Mission: To include all people in the celebration of the Eucharist and the continued study of their faith.

How to Join:

  • Teachers - Must have special education background or other professional experience in assisting those with multiple physical and learning disabilities. Those interested can contact Mike Baker at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . They will then be referred to Karen Duffy, who will setup a time and date for an evaluation.  Each new teacher will then be assigned a one-on-one teacher or train preparation staff for inclusion.

History: Ministry was started in 1987 the same year our parish was founded.  This is the one of the longest lasting ministries at St. Isaac Jogues.

Events: Group events and their families; Referrals to community groups.

 

Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Mission: To advance the directive of the Second Vatican Council, to ensure the availability of all church services, classes and events to all people.

How to Join:

  • Persons Needing Accommodations - Simply show up. Signed Mass is Sunday at 10am at the church. Signed Bible Study is Sunday at 11:15am in Room #2 of the parish social hall.
  • Signers - Must be able to signal or see.  Anyone interested can contact Mike Baker at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Signers who are learning sign language may also assist at Mass or at classes to improve their skills.

History: Ministry was started in the mid-1990's when the needs for a signed Mass became known.  One person came to Mass with the need, and through the years, we have served over 30 members of the parish.  As of 2012, there are now 12-15 deaf parish members who utilize this service and two individuals who are learning sign language due to disease-causing hearing loss.

Events: Retreats; Socials; Special signed Masses quarterly at St. John Vianney Parish.
